The Botanical Garden is a one-of-a-kind evening show broadcast weekly on Sundays at 6pm on Fuse FM, acting as a cabinet of curiosities with two deep dives each week into some niche topics dictated to me by the worms in my brain – examples include: extinct digital art styles of the 2000s, the most powerful haircut of all time (the bob), the ethics of e-reading, extreme dishwasher loading, and why you should always salute magpies.
The idea for the show came from visiting my first botanical garden and the unmatched sense of relaxation I felt from learning detailed information about plants, walking around a beautiful landscape and (of course) listening to some of my favourite music. I thought a similar concept would translate excellently to radio - celebrating the joy of spontaneity and finding peace amongst the chaos through a variety of relaxing music and highly researched topics jumbled together into 1hr episodes.
There are 14 episodes available to stream on Mixcloud, where I’ve gained 25 followers, had over 1,200 minutes listened, placed 9th in the Global Talk: Educational Chart and 26th in the College Radio Chart The show has maintained a consistent format, level of polish and brand identity over the course of the year making a strong impression and establishing itself as a flagship show for the station.
I was awarded Best Presenter at the 2023 MMG Awards and also Best Presenter at the 2024 Student Union Awards for The Botanical Garden's first season.
